Whilst it's still a long haul destination - it can offer a week or two holiday destination to European holiday visitors. Both BA and Brazilian airline, TAM have direct flights with Brazil's Salvador airport in NE Bahia, just 12 hours away from the UK. In season, air fares can be bought at around £450 return.
What's the weather like?
Brazil's seasons are opposite to the UK as it's southern hemisphere. So it's ideal if you favour winter breaks over summer ones. As it's a large country, it offers plenty of different climates. Key points to note are:
-tropical areas lie north of Rio de Janeiro
-temperate areas lie south of Rio de Janeiro and
-summer temperatures average 25C up to 40C degrees.
Buying into Brazil
It's relatively easy to buy Brazilian property. Property contracts are written in both Portuguese and English with a guarantee of full title.
So what do you need to do?
-get a Cadastro das Pessoas Fisicas (CPF). An ID number, which lets you open a bank account and register utility services. Some property developers do this for you for a small charge
-employ a local lawyer to initiate and complete legal processes and land title status. Legal fees typically amount to between 1-2% of the property purchase price
-get a UK mortgage as Brazilian mortgages for foreign investors currently offer interest rates of 35%
You need to know that:
-standard Brazilian property deposits are 10% but some variations exist, between 5% and 25%
-there is a stamp duty of 5% plus
-4-5% of the purchase price is payable on property transfer costs./font>
